Position Summary:


Reporting to the Associate Director, Communications, the Project Manager Communications is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation, coordination and completion of marketing and communications related projects within University Advancement.

The project manager is responsible for planning and implementing new initiatives and client focused solutions.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage a wide range of projects, including meeting with clients to take detailed client briefs, and clarify specific requirements and objectives of each project;
  • Collaborate with members of the Content and Publications, Digital Strategy, Creatives Services and McGill News teams, to develop comprehensive project plans and schedules for marketing and communications initiatives, in concert with Alumni Relations, Annual Giving, Office of the VP: University Advancement, and other units;
  • Monitor project performance to ensure deliverables are met; identify areas for improvement;
  • Meet time and financial objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on analysis. Manage all project communications, including providing regular status updates to stakeholders. Evaluate successes. Write reports and documentation, and distribute as required;
  • Be a key resource with external vendors and Central IT Systems when projects necessitate it;
  • Working with the Associate Director, implement and continue to use project management software. Identify and evaluate improvements to aid workflow. Develop and implement new processes;
  • Working with the Associate Director and Communications Management team, participate in the development and implementation of new initiatives that support the strategic direction of University Advancement.
  • Implement project management best practices and stay abreast of developments in the fields of project management, marketing, communications, and analytics

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Marketing or Communications, or professional experience in a marketing and communications environment is an asset
  • Certification recognized by Project Management Institute is an asset
  • Proven ability to manage and complete complex projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline; proven ability to solve problems creatively
  • Ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices
  • Strong strategic, operational, and technical marketing and management skills
  • Demonstrated strong communication, leadership, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask; strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Reliable, selfmotivated with an ability to work autonomously and with diverse stakeholder groups in a teamoriented, collaborative environment
  • Must be clientfocused and serviceoriented
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English; French spoken and written

(MPEX Grade 04) $58, $73, $87,710.00
