This position is responsible for implementation, administration and maintenance of the Black & McDonald Health, Safety/Environment programs within the Region.
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor will work closely with trades Supervisors and Site Managers and others to support safe work execution by ensuring programs compliance and effectiveness.
Perform functions associated with but not limited to accident / incident prevention, human performance event-free framework, event free tools, investigation techniques, coaching, mentoring, and statistical analysis.
Review and communicate policies, systems and procedures that optimize HSE performance and supports initiatives undertaken by the Management Team.RESPONSIBILITIES
- ES-MSA
- Located on the designated Cameco Site and is such a key member of the SCT
- Reports functionally to the Safety Services Manager
- Responsible to monitor all aspects of the work to ensure Line Management is meeting the HSE requirements including legislative, ES MSA HSE policy and procedures and OPG safety policies and procedures when applicable
- Majority of time is spent performing field observations and assessments of the work being performed
- Documents and reports observation findings and field reports to Trades Superintendent, Subcontract Coordinator and Site Manager for action
- Assist with development of safe work practices and job procedures.
- Attend daily/weekly project meetings including prejob briefings, postjob briefings
- Prepare and occasionally deliver toolbox talks
- Conduct investigations of workplace medical aid or loss time incidents or as directed by the Safety Services Manager
- Monitor workplace activities through daily inspections to ensure workers comply with employee health & safety policy and government safety regulations
- Identify training opportunities, develop appropriate training programs and deliver training to employees
- Ensure appropriate practices and procedures are provided to supervisory staff
- Issue rapid responses and corrective action notices
- Liaise between PGR Management, Human Resource, Human Performance and HSE team
- Participate in safety commit processes
- Provide HSE indicators on project activity
- Review and investigate all incidents, injuries and events
- Notify client safety management of incidents
- Review incident and inspection reports completed by supervisory staff and monitor corrective action(s)
- Coordinate investigations and other efforts with the Safety Services Manager
- Advise, assist and coach Managers, Supervisors and Trades personnel with
- HSE hazard identification and control

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Degree or Diploma in health & safety or 3 years of experience in a trade or related
- Relevant health & safety industry experience considered an asset
- Ongoing discipline related training appropriate to HSE issues and programs
- Proven experience and continued training with Behavioural Based Safety, Human Performance, Continuous Improvement programs, processes, projects, and initiatives
- Experience working on project of low risk and complexity
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Computer Literacy; MS Word, Outlook, Excel
- Proven understanding of project management, engineering and construction processes and relevant software
