The Human Rights Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial Tribunal established by the Human Rights Code [Code] to receive, mediate, and adjudicate complaints and provide dispute resolution services in human rights matters.
The Tribunal is accountable to the legislature through the Ministry of the Attorney General and functions independently of government on all matters related to adjudication.
As an adjudicative tribunal with broad quasi-judicial powers, the Tribunal operates in a manner similar to a court, but with greater flexibility.
The Registry Officer [RO] uses knowledge of the Code, the Tribunal's Rules of Practice and Procedure [Rules], the Tribunal's processes and other government resources to answer all pre-filing of a formal complaint inquiries.
The RO is responsible for managing a high-volume caseload of vetting and inputting new complaints into the Tribunal's case management system and notifying the parties when a new complaint has been received for filing.
The RO proofreads, edits and posts the Tribunal's formal decisions.The RO assists with the production of the Tribunal's annual report, maintaining the Tribunal's website and forms, and compiling statistics.
The RO maintains the Tribunal's document retention strategy.Job Requirements:
- Secondary school graduation, preferably supplemented by postsecondary education in a related field.
- Experience communicating and explaining complex information to a diverse audience.
- Experience working with vulnerable members of the public who may be in distress and have literacy, mental health and/or language barriers.
