Position Summary:

The Royal's Mood and Anxiety Program cares for people with complex and persistent mood and anxiety disorders.

This may include depression (depressive disorders), bipolar disorder and related disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders, or trauma-and stressor-related disorders.

We offer treatment to patients whose mood and anxiety disorders require highly specialized services as well as consultation service to support community-based mental health care providers.


Reporting to the Manager, Inpatient Services, and the social worker is responsible for providing a full range of client centered clinical services.

The inpatient social worker's primary responsibility will be to participate in delivering a range of structured group and individual therapy that are evidence based related to post-traumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder, adjustment disorders, interpersonal therapy, substance and co-occurring disorders, depression and anxiety disorders.

As well, as clinical and risk assessments, provide consultation, crisis counselling and support.

Other responsivities, but limited to

, education and recommending appropriate alternative resources, providing advocacy and liaising with community partners.

The social worker practices in accordance with TRPMHC policies/procedures and of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social service Workers (OCSWSSW) practice standards.

Evening and Weekend work may be required.


Duties:
/key responsibilities


  • Provide direct support, therapeutic interventions, education and counselling to clients and families with mood and anxiety disorders on an inpatient setting.
  • Provide evidencebased assessment and treatment (individual and group) and consultation for adults with Mood and Anxiety Disorders
  • Liaise and consult with relevant community agencies and service providers
  • Complete risk assessment, crisis intervention plans, and clinical needs assessment.
  • Communication of information related to clinical need, risk assessment and clinical strategies with the clinical team.
  • Engage client, family, and significant others in the clinical interventions and risk reduction strategies with the clinical team.
  • Document on patient's electronic clinical record according to hospital, college, and legislative standards.
  • Maintain work load measurement and related data collection (e.g. RAI) as required.
  • Participate and lead in research and program evaluation.
  • Participate in supervision, teaching and education of Social Work students, and support students from health related disciplines.
  • Participate in peer review/consultation processes, clinical supervision and training of early career clinicians and learners
  • Participation in hospital Social Work and continuous quality improvement requirements.
  • Attend and actively participate in Social Work Peer Consultation groups and meetings.
  • Keep current of hospital policies and procedures and applicable legislation.
  • Keep up to date regarding professional standards by reviewing current literature, attending educational events, networking with colleagues, etc.
  • Participate in Program and discipline specific committees and task groups.
  • Provide educational presentations to community groups.
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.

Qualifications/requirements:


  • Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited postsecondary institution
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Work and Social Service Workers and in good standing.
  • Minimum of three years experience providing individual and group psychotherapies within a hospital based inpatient and/or outpatient program.
  • Proven ability to conduct comprehensive Psychosocial Assessments; advocacy and referral required.
  • Conduct and design individualized treatment plans including assessed needs and risk assessment e.g. suicidality, selfharm, or other safety risks
