The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for providing the overall leadership and management of the Lilwat Business Group.

The Lil'wat Business Group is a diversified group of companies with acting operations in Forestry, Retail, Mining, Waste Management and Land Development.

The role includes the assessment of new opportunities, planning and development, reporting, organizational design and development, general operating management, human resource management, financial management, business and client relations, advising on business interests of title and rights negotiations, and general administration affairs.


Key Deliverables and Expectations:


  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Lil'wat Business Corporations approved Plans, Policies, Standards and Programs, and as directed by the Lil'wat Management Services Inc. Board of Directors.
  • Works in cooperation with the Lil'wat Nation Community, Chief and Council, Committees, Lil'wat Operating Boards and the staff of Lil'wat Business Corporations as defined in the Lil'wat Business Governance Manual.
  • Develops and manages the affairs of Lil'wat Business Corporations, in accordance with approved Vision, Mission and Value Statements, and the Lil'wat Nation Laws and Regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Leadership

  • Provides leadership and support to the employees and independent contractors of the Lil'wat Business Corporations in their development and management of the business, financial, human resource management and operating affairs.

Boards of Directors

  • Works in consultation and cooperation with all Boards of Directors in the planning, development, management and reporting of the business affairs of the Lil'wat Business Corporations.

Planning

  • Manages the overall development and review of the Lil'wat Holdings LP Strategic Planning process and manages the implementation of the Strategic Plan upon approval of the Boards of Directors and Chief and Council.
  • Provides support to the Operating Companies for their implementation of the approved strategic plans, to include the development and management of Corporate work strategies and plans.

Human Resource Management

  • Manages the development and review, and the administration of the Lil'wat Holdings LP Five Year and Annual Human Resource Plan, as approved by the Boards of Directors.
  • Ensures that all human resource management affairs are developed, managed and administered in compliance with applicable Lil'wat Nation and Government Laws, Standards, Regulations and Programs.
  • Manages the overall development, review and administration of the Lil'wat Holdings LP Human Resource Policy and Procedures and ensures that all employees are administered in accordance with approved Human Resource Policy and adhere to Policy.

Financial Management

  • Provides leadership, direction and support in the overall planning, management, reporting and auditing of the financial affairs of the Lil'wat Holdings LP and the Lil'wat Operating Companies, in accordance with approved Lil'wat Holdings LP financial policies and accepted professional accounting principles and practices.

General Management

  • Manages the overall Corporate business and operating management affairs of the Lil'wat Nation, in consultation with Chief and Council, the Operating Boards, the Lil'wat Nation Community, Operating Managers and internal and external Organizations and Committees as needed.

Occupational Health and Safety

  • Oversees the development, review and management of comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Programs for the Uiwat Holdings LP and the Lil'wat Operating Companies.
  • Ensures that all Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Programs are in compliance with BC Provincial Regulations and Standards.

Experience and Attributes:


  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an Accredited University / College in a Related Discipline (Business Administration, Accounting, Forestry, Engineering) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Professional Aboriginal Economic Development (PAED) Certification
  • Eight to Ten years related Business Management experience, including three to four (34) years at the senior executive/ management level
  • Prefer Business Leadership and Management experience with a First Nation Organization, including experience with Partnerships and Business Acquisition and Development
  • Business Management experience within the Forestry, Retail and Construction Industry an asset
  • Experience in the development and management of Business and Operating Systems, Policies and Programs
  • Experience with First Nation Rights and Title negotiations, Economic Development, Business Strategic Analys
