As a condition of employment, you are required to submit a Criminal Record (CRC) including the vulnerable sector that is acceptable to the Board.

Human Resources must be in receipt of the original CRC before your employment can begin. Please note that the Board does not assume any costs associated with the Criminal Record Check.


Designated Early Childhood Educators - 10 Month Position


Reporting to the principal, the designated early childhood educator will partner with the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning kindergarten program within a classroom setting and provide supervision and age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the extended day program as required.

The DECE will report to the principal of the school.


The DECE will collaborate in the design of the full day early learning kindergarten program and environment which will enhance children's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Hold a two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma preferably with experience in a childcare or educational setting;
  • Provide proof of registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • Hold Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED.

PROVEN ABILITY TO:


  • Proficiently display knowledge and practice of the Full Day Early Learning Kindergarten Program document, Ministry of Education, 2016;
  • Use effective and varied assessment tools to capture student learning and uses the information to inform their planning;
  • Displays positive interpersonal skills in working with students, teachers, paraprofessionals, Principal/Vice Principals, parents, and community agencies;
  • Communicate in a professional manner;
  • Understand commitment to confidentiality;
  • Demonstrate effective class management skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Documents student learning effectively using a variety of tools and techniques suitable for Kindergarten children (at a glance sheets, photographs, video, class profiles);
  • Maintain updated attendance, emergency contact information, medical information, safety plans, etc.;
  • Works effective and efficiently with the Kindergarten team teacher to maximize their program delivery skills in a complementary way;
  • Demonstrates 3 roles; observer, materials manager, spectator, and participant;
  • Incorporates an inquirybased curriculum assigned to reflect the way children conduct knowledge;
  • Interactions with children demonstrate opportunities for 'responding, challenging and extending' learning;
  • Creates an environment that fosters open, professional communication;
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and special education teacher to carry out specialized activities to support learning for children requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP);
  • Supervise and assist children in washroom routines and toileting/diapering
  • Supervise and assist children with dressing;
  • Attend staff meetings, appropriate schoollevel meetings and professional development activities as required;
  • Complete any duties as assigned by principal.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM:

  • Maintain and updates the Extended Day Program binder;
  • Perform related administrative functions as required;
  • Plans and delivers playbased learning that promotes the wellbeing of the child;
  • Ensures ongoing and effective communication with parents, staff, and administrators
  • Oversee and distribute snacks for children attending;
  • Absences specific to Extended Day Program must be reported according to board policies;
  • Complete other related duties as assigned by the principal.
