- Provide analysis, insights and support to various dynamic income tax projects including scientific research & experimental development tax credit claims, capital asset reviews, adjusted cost base tracking and documenting transaction logs
- Assist in assessing, evaluating, and implementing income tax planning needs to optimize tax efficiency and minimize tax liabilities
- Assist with identifying and evaluating legislative changes and ensuring compliance with the legislation
- Prepare and file various tax returns for Empire, Sobeys and subsidiaries
- Prepare supporting schedules and working papers to support the filing of income and other tax returns
- Calculate, track and remit federal and provincial income tax instalments and final payments
- Prepare income tax and future tax working papers in compliance with IFRS
- Provide income tax support for all functional departments
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of information to support government agency audits
- Assist with external tax audits and support implementation of corrective measures for issues arising from audit assessments and findings
- Support external advisors on compliance and planning matters.
- Provide tax support related to processes and technical queries
- Work with finance and business development teams to ensure compliance with income tax legislation and regulations
- Support implementation of tax compliance recommendations
- Assist in developing guidelines and policies and provide training to relevant internal business groups
- Ensure compliance with CEO/CFO certification requirements
