What You'll Do
As the Lead Blaster, you will lead blast crew in quarry blasting operations throughout the province. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of each blast site. Other duties will include

  • To provide supervision to all blast site assigned employees.
  • To conduct blast site hazard assessments to ensure the blast site is a safe work environment for all involved.
  • Communicate all relevant information to the blast crew, including a review of the hazard assessment through the safety tailgate meeting.
  • Assist Surveyor in Shot layout, recording hole depths and backfilling to grade.
  • Collect and assess drill logs to adjust hole loads.
  • Evaluate face profiles to adjust hole loads.
  • Ensure that all equipment to be used in that operation is in good operating condition, including vehicles used for delivery of explosives products.
  • Ensure that all regulations, both federally (TDG, Explosives Act, Bulk Regulations, WHIMIS) and provincially (Blasting Safety and OH&S Regulations) are adhered to by all personnel on your crew.
  • Maintain an accurate and uptodate inventory of all products (explosive and nonexplosive).
  • Ensuring that company policies, safe work practices, hazard analysis, and standard operating procedures are uptodate and followed by crew members.

What We're Looking For:


  • Completion of high school (Grade 12) or equivalent preferred
  • Provincial Blasting License Class I or II (NS or NB) or able to acquire based on experience.
  • Basic computer skills and an ability to communicate effectively in the terminology related to the field in the form of verbal and written reports.
  • Ability to repeatedly handle 25 kilogram units.
  • Class 5 Drivers License. Class 3 with air brakes considered an asset
  • Positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and a team player
