Laboratory Analyst

Red Deer, Alberta

Full Time Permanent
We are seeking a Laboratory Analyst in our Joffre Laboratory located at a petrochemical plant. Joffre is located approximately 20 minutes northeast of Red Deer, Alberta.


Job Overview and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

  • Independently operate various instruments including ICP, GC, HPLC, and NMR
  • Maintain proper calibration and quality control records
  • Perform and document routine maintenance procedures
  • Prepare samples for analysis using extraction methods
  • Troubleshoot and understand analytical equipment
  • Report instrument breakdowns to Supervisor and inform senior staff of any sample integrity related issues
  • Ensure adherence to Bureau Veritas's policies, certifications and accreditations
  • Actively participate in Bureau Veritas's Health and Safety Program (meetings, near miss and incident reporting, hazard assessment)

Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in related field (i.e. BS, Petroleum/Chemical Technician)
  • Demonstrated success in position of a Laboratory Technician or Analyst is an asset
  • Sound knowledge of sample handling procedures to ensure continuity and integrity of samples through compliance with laboratory procedures and quality assurance protocols
  • Knowledge of and experience with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices to handle hazardous materials by taking the necessary precautions.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, record keeping, calculations and problem solving abilities
  • Flexible to perform varying duties to accommodate changing priorities
  • Good timemanagement, communication, multitasking and priority setting skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fastpaced environment
  • Works both independently and as part of a team

Experience:

  • Minimum Education: Diploma in related field (required)
  • 23 years of experience in related field (preferred)

Schedule/Working Conditions:

  • Must live locally in the Red Deer area (30 minutes + or ) or be willing to relocate
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to be able to travel to and from site; no public transportation is available
  • Shift is 7 days on, 7 days off, 12 hour shift (days only)
