JOB SUMMARY:


The Water Distribution Branch manages the operation and maintenance of the City of Ottawa's water distribution system to ensure the continuous and adequate supply of high-quality potable water to customers at the lowest cost.


You are responsible for coordinating the onsite yard and shop maintenance for the hydrant, valve, pipe, traffic signs and miscellaneous shops, small engine/training room, and upper storage area.

You are also responsible for tracking, monitoring and maintaining equipment, tool, and supply inventories, ensuring availability and safe operations.

You support the Manager with day to day activities and supervise rotating assigned staff and respond to general questions and inquiries directed to the team.

Work is performed in accordance with all applicable legislation, operating policies and procedures and collective agreements.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of a 2-year Community College program in Business

Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field of study with an emphasis on materials and operational management.

Minimum completion of 5 years experience in purchasing and inventory management, preferably within construction, automotive or materials management stores


CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES:

Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Automotive and materials management stores including procurement inventory management and warehouse operations
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information
  • Order processing, shipping, receiving and procurement of transportation services
  • Computerized inventory control system(s)
  • Sourcing strategies and techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of automotive systems, components, parts and materials
  • City, department and branch bylaws, policies, procedures, standards and specifications affecting the installation, maintenance and repair of linear systems
  • Collective Agreement covering CUPE 503 employees and the principles of supervision in a unionized environment
  • Knowledge of branch procedures for the incident escalation response plan (IERP)
  • Understanding of confined space entry and applicable tools.
  • Knowledge of excavation practices and related regulations
  • Understanding of Water Distribution system and applicable MECP regulations and practices.
  • Familiar with all construction related practices
  • Knowledge of job scheduling and materials requisitioning
  • Operations & Maintenance Manual (O&M)
  • Safe work regulations such as, traffic control and roadway work (MOT Traffic Control Manual) in relation to unit operations
  • Safe operation of equipment such as backhoes/hoists/single axle and tandem dump trucks
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

  • Operate heavy and medium equipment such as a backhoe, loader, forklift, motorized pallet lift and other material handling equipment

  • Participate in cyclical / annual stock counts and reconciliation
  • Reconcile/verify invoices to information contained in reports and make adjustments
  • Understand and perform financial calculations required for order processing

  • Must be able to work under pressure
