YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA.

Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq.

ft. of dock, and has 60 buildings.


The Natural Arts & Crafts Program Head coordinates the day-to-day operation of the NAC program, ensuring the effective delivery of Pine Crest programming in relation to numerous mediums of art and creative expression, with a particular focus on developing new and sustainable resources for their respective area.

The NAC Program Head is also responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of their program space, ensuring that policies, procedures, and safety expectations are being met while also maintaining equipment.

They will take an active role in promoting high-quality programs around camp, supporting counsellors in their cabin programs, and working with the rest of the program team to plan and deliver regularly scheduled special events throughout each session.


In this role, you will:


  • Monitors the safety and consistency of all natural arts & crafts programs and responds immediately to rectify any safety concerns; maintains the NAC building as well as maintaining inventory of the supplies needed for the program and is proactive in their role in ensuring the program area is safe and organized.
  • Supervision; supervises participants and staff during programming and is ultimately responsible for staff facilitation of NAC programs.
  • Program delivery; planning and leading natural arts & crafts skills programs for cabins and leadership participants, teaching campers about various mediums of art through safe, engaging, and fun programming.
  • Works with the Program Director, Waterfront Director, and other Area Heads to plan and lead all camp activities, section nights, and special events.
  • Provides leadership to all YMCA staff; ensuring they have an understanding of how they can contribute to a safe, and positive program experience for all participants, relaying any concerns to the Program Director right away.
  • Ensure administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time including all paperwork associated with running the ropes programs and any administration duties delegated by the Program Director.
  • Continuously builds relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Acts as a positive role model for children, youth and fellow staff through embodying the values of the YMCA and the guiding principles of Camp Pine Crest, YMCA policies and procedures, and Ontario Camps Association
  • Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Children's Aid Society
  • Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

You bring:


  • Prior experience working in a camp or child/youth focused environment
  • Experience and passion for various mediums of art, including pottery and photo development
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C by first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of your contract
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and nonvisible dimensions of diversity
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident of Canada, or hold current and valid authorization (i.e., a work permit) under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) to engage in employment within camping and outdoor education
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and be adaptable to change
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and detailed oriented
  • Excellent and communication skills
