The Faculties of Engineering and Health Sciences at McMaster University have jointly developed an interdisciplinary undergraduate program entitled Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences (iBioMed/IBEHS).

This unique program aims to build strong foundations in both engineering and the health sciences, integrating biological and medical sciences with engineering and physical sciences.

A vacancy exists within the IBEHS program for an Academic Department Manager II.

This position, reporting jointly to the Director of Finance & Administration in the Faculty of Engineering, and the Director of Education Services in the Faculty of Health Sciences, will be accountable for developing, implementing and maintaining the efficient operations of the IBEHS program.

This position will provide leadership and administrative direction to the program staff including examining, reviewing and assessing immediate and long-term needs.

This position will be responsible for building effective linkages and communicating with faculty, staff, students and other units at the university.

Other responsibilities include managing the financial, human and physical resources of the program in support of teaching and research.


About the Position:


Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, The Academic Department Manager II is responsible for the operational management of a large, complex academic department with multiple functions including fee for service facilities, labs, research institutes, centres, and external partnerships, and oversees support to the academic programs within the department.

This role plays an integral role in shaping the direction of the department/program offerings, provides administrative and operational leadership, visioning and strategic planning, and informs the Chair/Director on financial, human resources, space, curriculum, and strategic matters.


_ Key Accountabilities:
_


  • Provides a link between incoming and outgoing faculty and staff on operational procedures and policy as they relate to undergraduate and graduate education and advises on new initiatives or changes to policies and procedures at both the department and university levels.
  • Collaborates with academic leadership of the department and senior administrative staff within the Faculty and with central offices such as the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the School of Graduate Studies, the Office of the Registrar, Human Resources, Institutional Research and Analysis, ROADS, MILO, Finance, Research Finance and Facility Services.
  • Responsible for overseeing the academic course planning and scheduling process within a department.
  • Plays an integral role in managing and overseeing all aspects of Accreditation and Institutional Quality Assurance Process (IQAP) processes. This includes overseeing the administration of the annual Graduate Attribute measurement and collection process, as well as the preparation for the program visits.
  • Oversees all aspects of the Accreditation Board visits and Graduate Attribute processes.
  • On a daytoday basis, this role implements the policy decisions taken by the Department, Faculty, or University with respect to undergraduate and graduate students, and research administration, represents the department/programs on Universitywide committees, and provides leadership and direction to the staff who provide service to students in the undergraduate and graduate programs.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or a professional designation such as CPA, or equivalent professional experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be organized, a long rangeplanner and an accomplished problemsolver able to quickly assess situations and individuals and lead solutions.
