Purpose:
As a member of Alectra's Government Relations Team reporting directly to the Policy Advisor and Government Relations Specialists, the Government Relations Co-op will work on a variety of policy and operational files in support of the LDC's interactions with federal, provincial and municipal governments as well as related agencies and associations.
Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and analyzing legislative and regulatory developments at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels that impact the energy sector.
- Assisting in the development of policy briefs, submissions, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including research, writing, and analysis.
- Supporting engagement efforts with government officials, industry associations, and community organizations.
- Conducting research on emerging issues and trends in the energy sector to inform strategic decisionmaking.
- Collaborating with crossfunctional teams to address regulatory compliance requirements and advocacy priorities.
- Organizing and coordinating GR Team meetings, activities, and records to support progress toward internal objectives.
Educational Requirements & Skills Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Business, or a related field.
- Previous knowledge and experience with the electricity distribution or energy sector is a strong asset.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret legislation, regulatory, and policy documents.
- Knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal government processes and key figures, and a demonstrated interest to advance in government relations, energy policy, or regulatory affairs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Comfortable working within tight timelines, independently without supervision, and collaboratively with the team as required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and research tools.
