Description

The Northern Alberta YMCA is looking for Day Camp Coordinators to provide leadership for and create a safe, positive, and fun environment for our campers, fellow staff, and volunteers.

As a Day Camp Counsellor, you will work with other counsellors to provide a memorable summer for our campers and your peers.

As a coordinator, you will benefit from leadership training training program, followed by a comprehensive one-week training program with the counsellors prior to camp start.

You will learn and coach others on best practices in behaviour management, program design, team communication and collaboration.

You will gain confidence in your decision making abilities and receive coaching and support from your lead coordinator to ensure that campers and their parents have a positive customer experience.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare day camp rosters and assist with delivery of day camp brochures or other marketing tools.
  • Work with Lead Coordinators and assist in recruiting, training, coaching, and supervising day camp staff and volunteers
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate a guest speaker and/or field trip each week and properly communicating schedule and arrange travel for all day camp staff and campers
  • Coordinate, implement, instruct and evaluate based on the framework provided by the Preschool, Child and Youth task group.
  • Leading program planning sessions and evaluating day camp programming for all Summer Day Camps for ages 317.

What You'll Need

  • Highschool Diploma or in pursuit of postsecondary education in a field connected to children and youth is an asset. (Recreation, Child Studies, Education, Physical Education, etc.)
  • Experience working with children and youth in a camp environment is preferred
  • Customer service experience is an asset ability to communicate with parents, families, and volunteers
  • Must have Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C prior to hire (the Y will provide support in registration)
  • Important: As this role is responsible for the care of children, we require a Police Information Check to be provided in advance of your first day of work. Instructions will be provided at the time of offer. If under 18, you will sign a declaration. If over 18, you will need to provide a Police Information Check with results satisfactory to the YMCA of Northern Alberta.
