The Lab Assistant will support the Lab Support Senior Manager in maintaining the laboratory to make work flow more efficient.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Responsible for working in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures;
properly uses personal protection and safety equipment as required by CPL; reports any injury

or illness immediately and notifies CPL of any hazards, unsafe acts or conditions in the

workplace.

  • Promotes and exemplifies the CPL culture, ensuring the delivery of an exceptional customer
experience through demonstrating CPL's core values.

  • Properly dispose of expired reagents, solvents and lab waste in appropriate containers and
dispose of empty bottles in the recycling bins according to health, safety and environmental

practices.

  • Performs laboratory, cleaning and minor maintenance on a routine basis.
  • Maintains the laboratory and supply storage areas in a clean and organized state according to
the SOPs.

  • Assist chemists in their work as needed.
  • Assist Sample Coordinators in sample receipt and disposal activities as needed.
  • Ensures the glassware is washed, dried and stored according to the SOP.
  • Ensures the lab supplies are requested and available in a timely manner to support a smooth
operation of the laboratory.

  • Monitors lab reagents inventory and expiry dates in a regular basis and reorders chemicals as needed.
  • Responsible for the efficient utilization of resources and supplies to reduce waste and achieve
cost containment and lean objectives

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Minimum high school diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 months working experience. A
college diploma in Chemistry with a minimum of 9-12 months of experience working in a lab is

an asset.

  • Knowledge of Excel is an asset.
  • Must be organized and able to handle multiple work assignments.
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Demonstrated competencies in CPL's core values of Integrity, Respect, Trust and Fairness.
  • Flexible with the ability to adapt, respond quickly and manage change in a fast paced
environment.


WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT:


  • Lab environment.
  • Receiving, inventorying, labeling and disposing of materials requires some reaching/bending
and lifting on a daily basis.

  • Flexibility in hours of work to address emergency issues /related activities outside of normal
workday.
