GIS Coordinator:


Permanent, Full-time Position

Non-Union


The Township of Springwater, located in the heart of Simcoe County, is a mixed urban/rural municipality with growing urban settlements and a prosperous agricultural sector.

The municipality is currently recruiting for a permanent, full-time position of GIS Coordinator.


We offer flexible work arrangements, including an opportunity to participate in the Township's 4-day work week program and the ability to work remotely.


Position Responsibilities:


The usual responsibilities of the position are:

  • Provide advanced technical services required to administer the Township's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services, including providing technical support services, data validation and maintenance, workflow design, and software deployment.
  • Collaborate with all departments to determine requirements and create and implement the technical and administrative structure for the GIS systems.
  • Gather requirements, plan, develop, test, implement, support, and document GIS systems.
  • Ensure spatial information is widely available across the organization to build efficiencies.
  • Responsible for the overall integrity of the GIS system, ensures the management of data is centralized within in a unified system, updates, and manages infrastructure data sets to coordinate with the asset management system.
  • Working with the IT department, providing support for all IT systems as directed including helpdesk support, workstation deployments, security, training, maintenance, and updates.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Completion of a Diploma in Geography, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Completion of a post graduate diploma in GIS, or equivalent experience and accredited certificate in GIS is an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in a GIS discipline developing, supporting, and managing GIS systems.
  • Understanding of GIS data maintenance, cartography, query, configuration and workflow principles and best practices.
  • Proficiency in formulating query expressions using SQL syntax and using graphical workflow tools to connect processes and automate minor processing tasks.
  • Excellent understanding of GIS concepts and software including a strong knowledge of the ESRI ArcGIS Desktop (and Extensions).
  • Knowledge in the use of webbased GIS technologies such as ArcGIS for Organizations and Portal for ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate working with clients in both meetings and individually to ensure needs are met.
  • Familiarity with parcel and infrastructurebased GIS data maintenance and analysis.
  • Ability to handle multiple and competing priorities to achieve production targets.
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills required to document and articulate standards, procedures, or reference materials.
  • Sound understanding in the use of MS Office suite; Knowledge of Harris CityView and PSD CityWide municipal software is an asset.
  • Ability to work occasional hours beyond the normal work week including attendance at evening meetings or weekend events or to accommodate deadlines and work projects, as required.
  • A Valid Class G driver's license in good standing with a satisfactory driving record; travel between off site locations may be required.
  • Due to the responsibilities of this position, you will be required to have a Police Information Check satisfactory to the Township.

Rate of Pay:


The Township of Springwater offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive employee benefit plan, including participation in the OMERS pension plan for this position.

Compensation for this position is currently $76,193.31 to $89,135.67 per annum (2024 rate).


Hours of Work:


This position will work 35 hours per week; however, occasional hours outside of normal business hours, including attendance at evening meetings or weekend events or to accommodate deadlines and work projects, will be required.
