Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) is a dedicated not-for-profit organization that acts on behalf of the province to oversee all aspects of end-of-life processing of electronics, paint, tires and used oil materials.

Since its inception in 1992, ARMA has led the diversion of 11.6 million electronic devices, 33.9 million litres of paint, 144.5 million tires, and over 2.0 billion litres of used oil from the province's landfills.


Most recently, thanks to the organization's innovation and environmental stewardship, ARMA was appointed as the administration and oversight body for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).

Position Summary:


The Director, Client Relations is responsible for leading client relations for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) at the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA).

This exciting role will be part of building Alberta's EPR system, and impact recycling programs for the province of Alberta for decades to come.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Stakeholder Engagement and Management

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates stakeholder engagement strategies in support of ARMA's EPR mandate, strategic priorities, and objectives.
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with ARMA's external stakeholders in Alberta, including the Ministry of Environment and Protected Areas, industry associations, etc. to understand stakeholder issues and build external support for ARMA and its mandate.
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with ARMA's external stakeholders across Canada and internationally, including other provincial EPR regulators and Environment Canada and Climate Change to build strategic partnerships.
  • Oversees and coordinates ARMA's EPR Industry Councils.
  • Works closely with the office of the Ministry of Environment and Protected Areas to coordinate liaison meetings.
  • Establishes, manages, and coordinates stakeholder working groups to facilitate collaboration and engagement on special projects.
  • Support ARMA's compliance and registry teams by acting as a point of contact for key registrants.
  • Provide expert advice to the Executive Director and broader ARMA Executive Leadership Team, on stakeholder relations and stakeholder issues, including the development of the annual report, business plan, fee setting and other strategic initiatives that requires insight into stakeholder impacts.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for key EPR stakeholders to engage ARMA by assessing requests for meetings and facilitating introductions.
  • Lead consultations, engagements, and outreach activities with support from corporate services.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, analysis, correspondence, presentations, and other materials in support of ARMA's EPR stakeholder engagement initiatives, including required materials for Board decisions and discussions.
  • Proactively engage with key stakeholders to identify emerging issues, develop mitigation strategies, and provide timely advice to the Executive Director and broader Executive Leadership Team.
  • Develop and implement systems, processes and procedures for stakeholder engagement and management.

Team and Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and mentor while nurturing strong relationships with all employees.
  • Develop and foster a culture focused on high-performance.
  • Support the EPR team and the organization through the development of effective working relationships.
  • Lead innovative practices, processes, and systems improvements using continuous improvement principles.
  • Be a positive role model and change agent, and lead by example to engage, empower and influence the EPR Team.
  • Participate in cross training opportunities within the EPR Team to provide support and backup during any staff absences and continue to grow and develop.
