What you offer?
The Camp Counsellor ensures that children and youth have a positive experience leading to personal growth through fun and rewarding recreation and sport programs.
This position fosters self-esteem as well as problem solving and conflict resolution skills in program participants, while working to create an atmosphere of safety, belonging and positive development in accordance with Y policies and procedures.
The Camp Counsellor presents a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and ensures excellent customer service is provided to members and participants by proactively addressing concerns or issues and escalating them to the Coordinator of Camping, as necessary.
The Camp Counsellor adheres to and ensures that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of the National Capital Region are conveyed to members, staff and volunteers with every interaction.
The Camp Counsellor will function as a team member with a group of 6-12 campers in either an overnight or a day capacity.

- Pioneers (8Y9Y)
- Explorers and Young Wonders (10Y13Y)
- Specialty and Leadership (8Y16Y)
Some of the tasks of this position include:
Programming: To lead and participate in all programs and to actively swim each day with the campers. Delivering programming based on skill level, and age of participants
Administration: Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and in a timely manner (site checks, program paperwork, incident reports, pre-camp phone calls, staff meetings, and parent feedback).

Safety: To be responsible for the safety, supervision, and security of all participants in your care at all times following the YMCA Policies and Procedures
- To participate with the children in a positive and supportive manner using the Healthy Childhood Development frameworks.
- Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of the National Capital Region and Y Canada.
- Develop and maintain an open, constructive, and professional relationship with program participants, caregivers, volunteers, coworkers, and supervisors
- Assuming other duties as assigned
What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

Language
- Fluent in English, oral and written
- Bilingualism an asset
Experience, Skills and Abilities
- National Lifeguard Certification, Bronze Cross, Paddle Canada, CUI or other relevant certifications are strongly considered as assets for this position
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification
- Experience working in a day camp or overnight camp setting are considered as an asset
