Reporting to the Manager, Student Communications & Campus Community, the Assistant supports the implementation of OCAD University (OCAD U) welcome programming for first-year students, and supports student communications on behalf of the department and clients across the University.


Summary of Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with the Campus Life Coordinator to contribute towards the development and execution of programming that effectively transitions firstyear students to university life, in particular during orientation welcome initiatives and events
  • Assist in the coordination of communitybuilding events and activities as part of the student peer mentor program and Welcome Squad student monitor program
  • Support recruitment, training and scheduling of orientation volunteers, student leaders and team captains
  • Develop promotional materials and communication assets, such as digital graphics and/or animated assets for digital signage and social media, wayfinding signage, tshirts for volunteers, etc.
  • Coordinate and monitor studentfacing social media channels
  • Support the execution and maintenance of the editorial calendar to coordinate routine student communications in collaboration with the Office of the Registrar and other departments
  • Write, edit and maintain knowledgebase articles, web pages and social content for studentfacing channels
  • Maintain archival documents, such as policies, academic calendars, course calendars, dates and deadlines
  • Maintain general knowledge and understanding of relevant university policies, procedures and practices, as well as confidentiality requirements
  • Play an active role in the provision of a safe and welcoming environment for all new and existing members of the OCAD U community
  • Support administrative processes of the department, including maintaining databases and archival documents, updating the virtual campus map, processing financial documents, or other related tasks that contribute to the success of the department

Qualifications:


  • University degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a related field
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience (fulltime or combination of parttime/volunteer) in program planning and administration, event management, postsecondary student life or communications
  • Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in communications design, copywriting, marketing, social media, website management and video production
  • Strong digital skills working within the Office 365 environment; familiarity with student information systems and digital design platforms are assets
  • Familiarity with accessibility in information and communication standards an asset
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal, organizational and problemsolving skills
  • Ability to exercise tact, good judgment and diplomacy
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and participate collaboratively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to deal effectively with a diverse population

Compensation:
OPSEU Unit 1, Appendix A, Grade A2; $22.12 to $30.42 per hour


Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday, for a total of 35 hours per week. This is a temporary contract expected to continue until December 22, 2023
