Select is looking for a summer student, currently enrolled in a Food Science program. This position is a 4 month contract and must be available to work full time hours.

Purpose


Reporting to the Quality Assurance Supervisor, the FSQA summer student will support the food safety & quality assurance team at a fast-paced sauce, condiments, and dressings manufacture.

The incumbent will have an important role performing chemical and physical analysis, sample collection, supporting GMP inspections and collaborate with others within the FSQA and Regulatory Affairs department to align on product specification.


Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical and physical analysis for batch release and finished product (pH, acidity, viscosity, density, water activity, moisture, etc.).
  • Record and maintain analytical results database.
  • Perform hold and release of finished product, ingredients, and packaging.
  • Perform label verifications.
  • Review batching and packaging documentation.
  • Perform xray, metal detector and scale verifications.
  • Calibrate lab equipment as needed.
  • Perform critical control point (CCP) verifications (pH testing, thermal process, water activity).
  • Perform control point (CP) documentation review (xray and metal detection)
  • Collect microsamples and coordinate shipping to external labs.
  • Perform continuous line verifications and GMP verifications throughout the shift.
  • Perform glass breakage reports when necessary.
  • Assist in reviewing certificates of analysis (CoA) and maintain CoA database.
  • Perform cooler/freezer temperature monitoring.
  • Assist with environmental monitoring.
  • Send out QA shift reports to the operations team when needed.
  • Participate in sensory and proficiency testing program.
  • Work with Regulatory Affairs Specialist on product specification updates.
  • Other FSQA related tasks as required.

Working & Physical Conditions

  • Standing and walking frequently
  • High noise levels, ear protection provided if requested.
  • Exposure to temperature changes, heat, humidity, and cold.
  • Exposure to dust, allergens, and strong odours
  • Handling ingredients and common allergens
  • Data Interpretation
  • Monday-Friday 9:00am5:00pm with the ability to work weekends or, on offshifts as required.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled or completing a degree or diploma in Food Science or related field.
  • Genuine desire to learn and develop your skills in FSQA.
  • Adequate computer skills
  • Able to understand and interpret standard lab equipment.
Monday to Friday 9AM- 5PM

Possibility of overtime including weekends.
