SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Operations Controller will be responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations and leadership of the Operations Controller's department of the Fort McKay Group of Companies.

The Operations Controller is responsible for managing the Project Analysts, the Supervisor of Shared Services and Time Entry and Billing Administrators.

The Operations Controller supports the Operations Managers in the financial management of their projects, and their fulfillment of the financial obligations of their contracts.

This support includes but is not limited to, developing accurate, timely divisional budgets, divisional financial reports, forecast guidance, revenue billings, time entry administration, and contractual requests including rate builds ups for proposals.

The Operations Controller will work in coordination with other Managers of the company and will be the primary link between operations, project management and finance.

This is position may require site access for our clients for systems, as such, completion of pre-access testing may be required.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is required to perform the following, but not limited to:

  • Lead, manage, and be proactive in all day-to-day activities of the operations controller's group, including responsibility to prepare internal month-end financial statements for all profits centers, management of all project billing, revenue and cost reconciliations per project or operating department, audit compliance with each client contract, and development of operations budgets.
  • Responsible for reporting to Operations Managers on Division Financial results compared to budget and participating in the development of RFP for new and existing contracts.
  • Builds, develops, establishes, and maintains project control protocols, procedures, and best practices. Responsible for ensuring all business processes are documented as well as ensuring complete up to date desktop procedures are developed and maintained for all functions within the Operation Controllers team.
  • Oversee the financial management of projects, which includes but is not limited to project setup, maintenance, billing, and project closure.
  • Assess job costing requirements, design and assist in implementing the job costing system in the ERP system
  • Assist and perform job set up functions including input of budgets, accurate cost code structures, rate tables and ensuring compliance with the corresponding client contract.
  • Monitor all functions of accounting at project sites to ensure they are accurate, timely, and in compliance with accounting deadlines.
  • Ensures compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Manages the project analysts ensuring they work with accounts payable and procurement to ensure accurate and timely cost recognition. This includes the creation of monthend cost accruals for all profit centres.
  • Manages the project analysts, who will work with billing admins and accounts receivable to ensure accurate, complete, and timely billing of revenue to client in accordance with contractual deadlines.
  • Ensures that the project analysts and billing clerks have created the monthend accrual entries for revenue and that all revenue is recognized in accordance with IFRS Standards.
  • Ensures that project analysts have accurately analyzed and documented financial performance of projects and clearly explained variances to budget. This includes revenue and cost reconciliations per project and or per operating department.
  • Oversees reporting to Operations Managers regarding financial management of projects and/or operations divisions. This includes participating in monthend preparation of divisional financial statements and reporting on monthend financial results to Operation managers.
  • Responsible for the preparation of all project and operating divisions operating and capital budgets based on corporate finance guidance.
  • Responsible for the preparation of all project and operating divisions forecasts based on corporate finance guidance.
  • Consults with the Corporate Controller on internal control requirements and ensures compliance with all established controls.
