Central City Brewers and Distillers is a craft brewery in the business of developing and selling international award-winning premium craft beer and high-quality distilled spirits brewed without compromise. Based in Surrey, British Columbia, CCBD was voted Canada Best Brewery of the Year in 2010 and 2012. Its Red Racer brand has become a cult icon among craft beer enthusiasts throughout North America. Founded in 2003 as a brewpub and liquor store in downtown Surrey, CCBD celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2013 with the grand opening of a brand new, 68,000 sq. ft brewery and distillery on Bridgeview Drive. In 2019 we opened a 40,000 sq ft storage facility with approximately 2000 barrels of whiskey aging in this facility. We are proud of being a local-Canadian Brewery that is currently expanding.


JOB SUMMARY


The
Brewer is primarily responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of our products by following appropriate Standard Operating Manuals.

Tasks include but are not limited to all aspects of raw materials handling, milling of grain, wort production, fermentation monitoring, yeast handling, and pitching, clarification, transfers, finished beer monitoring, equipment CIP and general sanitation, parts and hose maintenance, and additional cellar and brewhouse duties as necessary.

This is an night shift role.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitoring brewhouse to ensure production of consistent, highquality wort, to specification
  • Adherence to all documentation practices and quality standards (HAACP)
  • Regular communication with Operations Manager, Brewmaster, other brewers, and QC personnel to ensure successful management of production goals, and the maintenance of product quality
  • All aspects of yeast management
  • Cleaning and sanitation of fermentation vessels, yeast brinks, and brewhouse vessels
  • Bulk malt receiving, and milling operations
  • Clarification operations
  • Packaging (bottling, canning, kegging) operations as needed
  • Monitor CO2 levels in beer
  • Follow inventory procedures for all raw materials, chemicals, beer, cooperage, small parts, packaging, supplies, etc. and report deficiencies to lead brewer
  • Periodic handling of hazardous chemicals
  • Monitor quality and temperature of fermenting beers
  • Brewing in the pilot brewery
  • Training in distillation and the use of the stills
  • Other duties as dictated by production requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl
  • Heavy physical work including climbing stairs, lifting grain bags and other raw materials, pulling hoses, etc
  • Physical demands requiring frequent manual lifting/moving of materials weighing 25kg
  • Ability to work safely with potentially hazardous chemicals

Environmental Conditions:


  • While performing the duties of this position, the worker is exposed to inside environmental conditions, high and low temperatures, noise, the potential for physical injury, exposure to hot fluids, pressurized vessels and transfer lines, strong odors, chemicals, and moving machinery.

QUALIFICATIONS/DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Prior experience in production brewery setting
  • Familiarity with brewhouse software platforms would be advantageous
  • International recognized brewing qualification (e.g. IBD, Herriot Watt, Siebel, UCD); or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrable passion for craft beer
  • Forklift certified desirable
  • Excellent time management, and ability to multitask
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
  • Good understanding of quality assurance/quality control and problemsolving skills and to troubleshoot any beerrelated issues
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be computer literate, and have familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel)
