What can I expect to do in this role?: In this exciting role, you will:

  • provide customer service on financial student aid programs to applicants, Members of Provincial Parliament, financial aid representatives at postsecondary institutions and other ministries
- provide advice and direction on policies and program procedures
- reference legislation when making decisions on files referred to the ministry for a decision


How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:
You must possess oral and written French language skills at the superior level. Your proficiency level will be confirmed before hire.


Analytical, Problem-Solving and Organizational Skills:


  • You have excellent problem solving and analytical skills to verify information, assess eligibility, evaluate nonroutine cases and identify overpayments.
  • You demonstrate sound judgement and decisionmaking skills to make independent decisions on program approvals.
  • You can conduct research on program policies and precedents, and gather information.
  • You have demonstrated experience working under strict timeframes with changing and conflicting priorities on a daily basis.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:


  • You have superior oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain complex policies, procedures and program requirements to program partners and stakeholders.
  • You can maintain effective relationships and liaise with a variety of partners and stakeholders.
  • You have conflict resolution and negotiation skills to effectively manage appeals and complaints.
  • You have issues management skills to defuse potentially contentious situations with tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • You have strong written communication skills to prepare correspondence and reports for the public on behalf of high level government officials.

Technical Knowledge:


  • You have the ability to understand Student Financial Assistance Branch programs, policies and procedures for programs administered under the Ontario Student Assistance Program, and related legislation and regulations.
  • You can provide technical assistance/advice to institution financial aid representatives.
