Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

The Technician assists the technologist team with operating the equipment loans area, providing administrative services, and managing equipment sign-out, including front-line tech support, and general data information as necessary.

Routine duties require direct contact with students and faculty.

The incumbent will also assist with basic maintenance of production equipment and collaborate to ensure the rooms/labs/studios are compliant with college health and safety requirements.

Additional duties may include working on production projects internal or external to the College.

This position will work on-site five days per week, primarily at the Doon campus, located at 299 Doon Valley Dr, Kitchener, or alternate campus as needed.

Responsibilities:

Assisting in the maintenance of effective procedures to ensure the efficient operation of the equipment loans area
Communicating with students and faculty regarding available technologies
Maintaining current understanding of College and School policies and procedures
Demonstrating a high level of customer service, tact, diplomacy and professionalism
Ensuring proper completion and filing of loan agreement documents
Reviewing the condition of equipment before sending out and upon return
Undertaking preventive maintenance of equipment and assisting with maintaining the labs/studios to levels required by Health and Safety guidelines
Providing regular reports, both verbal and written, of equipment status to the manager
Composing routine correspondence in a professional manner
Working with the manager to resolve issues concerning student and faculty queries
Assisting with equipment setup and offering technical support to projects/initiatives both internal and external to the college (i.e., convocation, awards ceremonies, remote broadcasts etc.)
Travel to other Campuses to look after equipment loans as required
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Twoyear Diploma in Media Studies or a related field of study
Minimum two years of related work experience in a media production environment, an Audio/Video rental house, or Broadcast station/Cable TV/Broadcast TV required
Experience in design and maintenance of electronic databases and sign out procedures
Ability to meet multiple deadlines while handling constant interruptions
Ability to judge and maintain confidentiality
Organizational skills as a result of competing demands from faculty, student and manager
Ability to work as part of a team and with supervision
High level of interpersonal communication skills
Ability to use tact and diplomacy to achieve objectives
Willingness to upgrade skills as required for continuous advancement in the department
