Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years.

With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.

Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.


Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution center for finished nickel products.


The Opportunity


We are currently seeking a
Occupational Health Co-op Student, 4 months to join our
Process Technology Department, in September 2023.

Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences - and that's what makes us great


About You

Education & Experience:


  • Education: Currently enrolled and in good standing in an
    Environmental Science, Sciences (Chemistry or Biology) at University or College level
:


  • Preference will be given to students in 2nd year or higher
  • Chemistry / Biology / Environmental experience would be considered an asset.

Requirements & Accountabilities:


Occupational Exposure Monitoring Program

  • Maintaining sampling pumps and noise dosimeters
  • Doing calibrations and sending out for calibration
  • Interview with employee their results
  • Exceedance interviews and investigations
  • Data management in a software program called Cority.
  • Risk Assessment update and review annually
  • Creating presentations for JHSC for review
  • Procedure review and updating
  • Meeting with MOL hygienist when required.

WHMIS

  • Maintaining SDS sheets in software called Sphera/Dolphin
  • Chemical inventory
  • Chemical field visit inspections.
  • Ensuring chemical labels are current with GHS 2015. Create and replace as needed.

Special Projects

  • A comparing Cobalt total to Cobalt inhalable with the nickel secondary press during clean outs task only.
  • A comparing nickel inhalable dust in NPP to respirable dust various area samples at the start.


  • A

  • Special noise sampling using the AI unit to determine the breakdown of equipment contributing the highest sound levels.
  • The 3year area sound survey in PMR


  • A

  • Investigate the sound level during tank transfers through the Wilden pumps (PMR)


  • EMF


  • A
C and DC area surveys


Other Responsibilities

  • Designated substance review and assessment
  • Clean out the environmental back room use both students for this major task
  • Hours me can vary if they wish to do outside this time frame
