SEASONAL/SESSIONAL CONTRACT - APRIL 1, SEPTEMBER 4, 2023

Responsible for maintenance and/or repair work related to designated Town of Newmarket owned and operated facilities, performing routine and unscheduled maintenance tasks on physical plant equipment and buildings and any other assigned areas including: ice making and quality assurance, equipment inspection, maintenance and repair, supplies inventory maintenance, control and record keeping duties, facilities set-up and clean-up, complaints resolution, providing assistance and customer service liaison duties.

Co-ordinates and assists the work of, and providing guidance to, assigned contractors and trades people and assists in the orientation and training of new staff regarding facilities and unfamiliar equipment, as requested.

Job Requirements

  • Formal academic training in facility maintenance as well as demonstrated maintenance experience in areas including: carpentry, minor electrical, plumbing and HVAC techniques and methods, and maintenance equipment operation in the facilities/building maintenance field.
  • Certified pool operator certificate from a recognized professional organization, college, or university.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and codes including but not limited to: Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Safety Act, Accessibility Awareness Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Ontario Fire Code, Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, and T.S.S.A.
  • Possess Training for: Lift Truck, Aerial Work Platform, Propane Safety, Fall Arrest, Lock out
  • Tag out, Confined Space Entry, (MTO) traffic control regulations and devices.
  • Practical working knowledge of municipal infrastructure operations associated material, applicable health and safety regulations (WHMIS, Fire Extinguisher etc.), equipment operations and maintenance procedures. (same as #1)
  • Ability to operate various Town equipment including trucks, tractors, snow plows and the ability to haul trailers and tow lifts.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills combined with time/project management skills.
  • Effective customer service skills to interact courteously and effectively with the general public, staff, suppliers, contractors and other departments and levels of government.
  • Basic First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to attain Certification in Server Intervention Program
  • Class "D/Z" Driver's Licence in good standing preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skill.
  • Availability to work and/or respond to afterhours emergencies and special events as may be required.
