Introduction:


Reporting to the Director of Maintenance, the Planning and Scheduling Supervisor is a leader at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex facility accountable for the safe and effective planning and scheduling all forms of maintenance work.

This is a leadership position with direct reports consisting of multiple trades based planners, schedulers, Cost Specialist employees plus contractors.

The position is based out of the Heartland Petrochemical Complex located outside of Fort Saskatchewan.


Role and Responsibilities Overview:


The Planning and Scheduling Supervisor will partner with various stakeholders to expand leadership and enhance relationships to deliver business results.

The Planning and Scheduling Supervisor will be responsible for creating and sustaining safe work practices, improving reliability, and reducing costs.

The position requires commitment to teamwork, Leadership, collaboration, safety, health, environment, financial accountability, work scope planning, Primavera scheduling, and equipment performance.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Accountable to provide quality oversight for planning and scheduling and cost controls for all scopes of work for all trades. Maintenance, Turnaround, Outages and Projects
  • Liaises with contractors and internal resources to ensure adequate job plans and effective schedules are generated for daytoday & weektoweek work, all outages and turnarounds including Maintenance Projects and Operations
  • Facilitates daily plant work review meetings and weekly scheduling meetings
  • Models outstanding safety leadership through field engagements, audits, recognition, and a proactive focus on leading indicators
  • Ensures roles and responsibilities are clearly understood; sets performance targets and encourages collaborative behaviours by driving ownership and accountability within the team
  • Accountable for improving workforce productivity and quality by anticipating and eliminating any potential delays through planning, scheduling via the coordination of maintenance resources, parts, materials and equipment
  • Accountable for timely and accurate budget estimating and cost reporting for Maintenance, Projects, Turnaround, Outages, and facilities work
  • Responsible for the effectiveness of the planning and scheduling work processes and tools utilized at the HPC. Maintenance, Turnaround, Facilities, and Projects/MOC
  • Ensures work management, planning and scheduling is performed in a consistent manner across the site
  • Ensures work execution coordinators are provided with work packages/job plans that are fit for purpose and ready for completion
  • Partnering with Warehouse team to ensure parts availability aligns with work released to the field. "Parts/ materials Kitting"
  • Determines parts, tools and equipment necessary to complete assigned planning work scopes within the plant and the full spectrum of potential maintenance crafts
  • Conducts regular inspection of plant work locations to both develop work plans and ensure work plans are effectively completed
  • Responsible for project cost controls for the HPC site. Maintenance, Turnaround, facilities and Projects
  • Responsible for continuous improvement of planning, scheduling, and cost processes supporting the HPC facility
  • Support project teams in design, planning, scheduling and constructability reviews for Projects/MOC's
  • Manage attrition and succession for all employees and contractor resources to align with business needs
  • Accountable for goal setting, performance management and reviews for 5 IPL employees and for 515 Contract or contingent workers
  • Support for delivery and efficient management of multimillion dollar budgets
  • Responsible to ensure commissioning support in planning, oversight, PSSR, Turnover System Development and handover of MOC, projects, and outages are embedded in all plans and schedules
  • Accountable to operationalize the planning / scheduling and project management work processes:
  • Collaborate and support of site Governance structure through focal teams, working teams and results teams

Education, Skills and Experience:


  • Post-Secondary education such as
  • Journeyman Industrial Mechanical Trade (Millwright, Pipefitter, Boiler Maker etc.), Mechanical Engineer, Power Engineer, Scheduler, cost engineer or Technologist.
  • 10+ years of industry planning, scheduling, and project controls related to maintenance, turnaround, projects, and project controls experience in large scale integrated Petrochemical, Refining or Midstream plants.
  • 10+ years of leadership experience
  • Primavera, SAP Maximo, Power BI, Excel, Word
  • Experience in Project controls

Additional Preferred

  • Petrochemical plant specific experience an asset
  • Experience in commissioning and startup of facilities
  • Experience in developing systems, processes and procedures from greenfield through to an operating facility
