Position Summary:


The Financial Administrator will oversee day-to-day financial and administrative operations for an integrated research and clinical program focused on autism and neurodevelopmental conditions.

The program has a funding portfolio of approximately $10M from a variety of governmental and non-governmental funding agencies. The scope of research projects spans biomarker discovery to community engagement. The clinical arm of the program is focused on the diagnosis and management of autism across the lifespan. The team is composed of approximately 20 staff members, including two Professors (Dr. Elsabbagh and Dr. Scorah), program managers, research and clinical staff, and graduate students.

An active and highly collaborative portfolio of activities at the local and international levels is carried out by the team, including research and clinical assessments, conference and lectures, and public engagement events.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Administers accounts for unit. Monitors and reconciles various accounts, statements, and reports. Identifies and analyses discrepancies and errors. Corrects errors and follows up on problems.
  • Assist the manager with budgets, forecasts and periodic variance analysis reports;
  • Provide quarterly reports.
  • Review fund balances and expiry dates in collaboration with Research Financial Management Services (RFMS) and Office of Sponsored Research for planning purposes and ensure continuity / renewal of funds where applicable.
  • Initiate and process a number of accounting activities such as opening funds, journal entries, supplier invoices, McGill Marketplace, Advances and Expense reports, Inter Departmental charges, Payment requests, budget transfers, salary receivables/reimbursements, other receivables/recovers, and grant yearend closing entries and adjustments.
  • Reviews and ensures encumbrances are setup in McGill's accounting system and ensures all commitments are properly reflected in systems.
  • Liaise with RFMS for assistance with resolution of fund overexpenditures, filing of financial reports to Sponsors and other relevant information related to research fund activities.
  • Performs various administrative and clerical tasks according to the needs of the unit.
  • Regularly liaises with departmental administrative staff as well as MNI HR and Finance units.
