Job Summary:
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist and support waste management staff to deliver a variety of Solid Waste Management projects
- Collaborate, research and analyze information and data related to the implementation of initiatives from Halton Region's Solid Waste Management Strategy, Blue Box Transition (Ontario Blue Box Regulation 391/21) and future infrastructure at Halton's Waste Management Site (HWMS).
- Prepare and deliver presentations to schools and community organizations. Conduct tours of the Halton Waste Management Site.
- Provide waste diversion services for community events (races; festivals; fairs; charity events; etc.).
- Attend community events to setup waste stations, train waste station volunteers, manage waste during the event, and provide waste management information to event patrons.
- Engage and liaise financial and statistical analysis on project information, financial reports, and waste related policies.
- Support research and development for waste collection contracts and agreements.
- Attend meetings with Management and transcribe meeting minutes.
- Assist with Green Cart program implementation at multiresidential buildings, including preparation of education materials, resource delivery and staffing resident information sessions.
- Assist with waste audits and waste assessments.
- Monitor of waste setouts in Halton Region and communicating with homeowners, businesses and other service locations regarding proper waste placement.
- Distribute communication material and information packages door to door.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
- Diploma or degree in the field of Environmental Engineering, Sciences or Studies, Geography or other related field of study. Education in Business, Administration or related experience is an asset.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Creative dispute resolution skills to address and resolve customer service issues.
- Effective problemsolving skills to identify and resolve a variety of dynamic issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to manage changing priorities, multitask and attention to detail.
Preferred
- General Knowledge of Halton Region's waste programs and proficient with the acceptable items lists for the Blue Box recycling and Green Cart organics program.
- Possess a good understanding of municipal solid waste management.
Working/ Employment Conditions:
Working Conditions
- Travel may be required between locations within Halton Region and GTA, incumbents must provide their own transportation.
- Must have a pair of CSA green patch steel toed safety boots.
- The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position, including the requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.
- This position requires a combination of in office and outdoor work that could occur during inclement weather conditions.
- Availability for regular work from Monday to Friday with occasional shifts scheduled in the evenings and weekends based on requirements to support events and functions outside of regular business hours.
