Duties and Responsibilities:


Under the supervision of the Departmental Administrator and under the general direction of the Chair, Department of Systems and Computer Engineering (SCE), the incumbent performs a variety of financial, communication, social media, event, space planning, student award, school accreditation, reception, and other administrative duties.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • A thorough knowledge of clerical/administrative and office procedures, with excellent typing skills.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills, and has the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with faculty, students, staff and the public.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Must be adept with contemporary software including expertise and capability using a variety of spreadsheets and databases and maintaining web sites and social media channels.
  • Knowledge of the following programs, or similar ones, is essential: MS Word, MS Excel, Banner, FAST, eShop (University procurement software), and SAP Concur (University travel and expense reimbursement software).
  • Must be capable of learning new software packages and be able to use different packages as they are introduced into the office environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to target multiple audiences (alumni, potential students, current students, industry partners, parents of potential students, etc.) using multiple social media channels.
  • Must be able to summarize complex technical events and achievements in language tailored to each audience.
  • Ability to handle complaints and negative posts with tact and diplomacy, coordinating the gathering of required information and the drafting of the response to ensure a positive outcome.

Education and Experience:


The above is normally acquired through:

  • The completion of a three years of post-secondary education, preferably within an administrative field and training in marketing, digital communications, or social media management.
  • Three (3) years related progressively more responsible experience, some of which should be in an academic environment.
