Your role

CBC News:

The National has openings for 2 full-time temporary producers who love working in current affairs and in the field.

These are 1 year opportunities each.


You are an experienced journalist who can turn around contextual pieces in a breaking news environment under tight deadlines, and can also work on in-depth or investigative stories.

Innovation and creativity have to be in your DNA.

People love working with you and think you are a kind person and may even have a great sense of humour.

You need to be open to new video storytelling treatments, and be passionate about finding original or underreported stories about the biggest issues facing Canadians and the world.

An important part of that is a proven capacity to create content that engages with modern news users.

  • Excellent grasp of news and current affairs.
  • Proven ability in the field.
  • Knowledge of current, new or emerging production techniques and technology.
  • Lives and promotes the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of, and/or connection to underrepresented communities across Canada.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding and appreciation of the different cultures, opinions and experiences that make up contemporary Canada (new, diverse, younger audience).
  • Elevates diverse perspectives, ideas and differing points of view.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • 5 years of comparable and relevant experience preferred.
  • Exceptional reporting, memorable writing and digital storytelling.
  • Excellent interviewing and presentation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with a variety of teams.
  • Proven ability to work in a highstress, tightdeadline environment.
  • Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and on weekends as needed.
  • Knowledge of the public broadcaster's role, responsibilities and journalistic standards.
  • Track record of creativity and innovation with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proven chase skills.
  • University degree in journalism or equivalent preferred.
