The City of Port Coquitlam's Recreation Department is committed to providing inclusive and engaging arts experiences for all members of our community.

We are looking for an experienced professional for the role of Public Art & Engagement Specialist who will act as a key member of the Arts & Culture leadership team.

The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the public art selection process, as well as contracting and overseeing the work of professional artists.

Supervision, including guidance and mentoring of staff and volunteers is required. This position requires some weekend and evening work supervising arts facilities and arts programs, including Artist-in-Residence workshops and exhibitions.


Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that industry standards are adhered to with respect to public art procurement, processes and maintenance
  • Supervises and mentors emerging and established professional artists delivering programs for the community
  • Performs a variety of administrative work with supervisory responsibility, including designing, planning, organizing and promoting arts programs, activities, events and services
  • Trains and supervises staff, instructors and volunteers
  • Drafts a variety of reports and maintains records related to the work


Duties are performed under the general direction of the Arts & Culture Coordinator and/or manager of Cultural Development & Community Services.


  • Postsecondary degree in Fine Arts or related field
  • Minimum three years of experience designing, planning, scheduling, implementing, promoting and evaluating progressive arts educational and public art programs
  • Oneyear supervisory experience
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver's license
