About the role


The Underwriter (Major Accounts Practice) will deliver the Accident & Health value proposition by providing excellent service to our various broker and client relationships.


As an underwriter focusing on our Major Accounts, you are recognized for your technical expertise and ability to execute the renewal of existing business and the writing of new policies.

You balance the needs of multiple stakeholders, making sound decisions using data, analysis, experience, and judgment, along with a risk mind-set.

Ultimately, you take ownership for key outcomes for the policies and relationships you manage.

  • Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be in Toronto, or Vancouver._

What you need to know:

  • Responsible for underwriting full line of A&H products in order to maximize profitability (e.g. quote new business opportunities & endorsements and underwrite all assigned renewals) by considering all factors related to the account.
  • Determine acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
  • Determine appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis.
  • Prepare quotes and answer questions from brokers, policyholders or other external contacts and escalate issues to management along with proposed solutions as necessary.
  • Attend meetings and present renewals/quotations to brokers and clients when required
  • Negotiate with brokers to reach positive and profitable outcomes.
  • Works closely with Sales to develop and maintain broker/client relationships.

What we're looking for:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in Accident and Health/Group insurance industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of AIG's internal and external business partners.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively, especially during times of high activity and tight timelines.
  • Attainment or working towards CIP/FCIP, LOMA or CEBS designation is considered an asset
