Job Summary


The Signals and Communications (S&C) - Construction Supervisor is responsible for managing the installation of all signal systems, inspections, and testing activities leading up to and including placing locations in service.

Additionally, the incumbent ensures the supervision of employees on an assigned territory.


Main Responsibilities
Management

  • Manage assigned personnel to ensure signal construction work is performed with CN's and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) standards and in conjunction with applicable collective bargaining agreements
  • Direct groups of employees
  • Recommend appropriate corrective actions to resolve performance issues
  • Respond and resolve grievances
Safety Compliance

  • Build safety compliance and improve safety results through efficiency testing and safety walkabouts
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback as well as coaching
Capital Projects

  • Plan, implement, and manage Capital Projects to ensure execution of plan within CN and FRA standards
Derailments and Disruptions

  • Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service
  • Work with Transportation and Mechanical to determine cause and future prevention
Working Conditions

The role is a combination of office and outdoors work in various types of weather and environmental conditions. The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends when necessary and to respond to critical incidences. The role requires frequent travel (60%) for company business, at times without advance notice. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress.


Requirements:

Experience

Signals and Communications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in signals and communications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in signal construction
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in supervision
Education/Certification/Designation

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
  • 2year of Technical Degree completed
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering
  • Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • Knowledge of S&C systems infrastructure and related safety appliances
  • Knowledge of S&C project management, standards, specifications, and procedures
  • Knowledge of S&C Inspection System (SCIS), Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), and Train Management Dispatch System (TMDS)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
