Your opportunity:


Under the general direction of the Manager, Administration & Finance and supervision of the School Business and Financial Officer, the incumbent oversees the payroll functions associated with faculty, staff, and students at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.

This is a term position with an end date in Dec 2024, with possibility of renewal.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Acting as the first point of contact for payroll related enquiries. Keeping wellinformed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
  • Collecting supporting documentation required for payroll and/or HRIS processing, preparing contracts using templates
  • Entering salary and/or personnel information in HRIS. Collecting timesheet data and processing in the applicable systems. Processing payroll. Processing payroll. Troubleshooting and resolving payroll discrepancies.
  • Tracking and processing attendance
  • Processing invoices
  • Preparing and/or processing journal entries, generating reports, verifying the accuracy and completeness of documents.
  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations

Essential Qualifications:


  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in Finance or Accounting or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent and related experience processing payroll transactions.
  • Experience identifying and resolving individual payroll discrepancies and bring forward for resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with developing, maintaining and analyzing reports.
  • Experience processing payroll for unionized and nonunionize staff in an academic department.
  • Advanced skills with MS Office (e.g. Excel and Word) and database management.
  • Advanced skills with SAP based Systems (FIS & HRIS)
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to explain financial concepts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a superior customer service orientation and ability to deal tactfully, personably and effectively with staff, students, and all other stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate records and information systems.
  • Multitasking ability, ability to organize and oversee a high volume of paperwork
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and correct problems and strong attention to details.
  • Excellent time management skills.
