Department Summary


The School of Dentistry Oral Health Clinic (OHC) located on the 8th Floor of the Kaye Edmonton Clinic provides oral health care services to over 250 patients per day.


Position Summary


Reporting to the Patient Services & Systems Supervisor, the Patient Services Clerk acts as the first point of contact for all patients for the full scope of the patient experience; starting from the initial inquiry/booking to check-out, including payment processing.

This position will have an end date of April 30, 2024. The successful incumbent should be available to work a rotating schedule between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.


Duties

  • Responsible for patient coordination and scheduling, coding entry into axiUm patient management software for accurate billing, patient registration and chart maintenance
  • Collects fees and completes insurance and thirdparty billing forms including coordination of benefits in the event of multiple insurance carriers
  • Processes CDANet and paper claim submissions
  • Processes cheque, debit, and credit card payments and completes deposits
  • Monitors the notifications of electronic bank payments, enters payments in axiUm, updates patients accounts, etc.
  • Maintains electronic filing system; types correspondence, photocopies, and faxes as required
  • Coordinates and receives documents (referral letters, correspondence, medical history documents, etc.), and scans into patients' electronic charts in axiUm database
  • Answers and directs numerous incoming phone calls, provides patients with program information
  • Acts as the first point of contact for a large volume of patients providing checkin and checkout services and collecting payments
  • Provides firstlevel support to patients and students regarding axiUm (electronic health record)
  • Performs other administrative duties as required

Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • 2 years of relevant experience in a fastpaced Dental Office
  • Experience with processing a large volume of patient traffic and phone calls
  • Expertise using an electronic health record system
  • Experience with POS devices, processing payments and completing deposits
  • Ability to critically analyze all aspects of the patient record and identify any required changes
  • Accurate data entry skills; strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask in a fastpaced and diverse work environment that is dynamic and constantly changing
  • Excellent communication skills (listening, verbal, and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Welldeveloped organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize activities
