The Opportunity:

We currently have a career opportunity for a Full-time, permanent IT Specialist to join our Network Operations Centre located in Barrie, Ontario.

The IT Specialist role is primarily responsible for the planning, design, implementation, and efficient operation of the Point to Point Broadband network as well as the internal Point to Point Communications IT network.

Additionally, this position supports internal and external customers both on the ISP side and on the IT side of Motorola two-way radio and Avigilon security systems.

Job Functions:

Programs customer equipment for projects and installs, including Cambium, Motorola and Avigilon equipment
Supports techs in the field doing repairs, installation and maintenance for Point to Point and customer infrastructure
Provide support to the Point to Point team for internal IT issues
Monitors internal infrastructure for errors or faults and provides a solution for repair
Implements and maintains Avigilon access control systems (customer/internal)
Creates business case requests for new or additional hardware or software for infrastructure
Maintains positive relations with customers and colleagues
Documents all customer interactions and troubleshooting steps in the ticketing system to allow for monitoring and reporting
Monitors infrastructure performance for customers who have SLAs
Completes required training to support both internal infrastructure and customer infrastructure
Participates in rotating "oncall" schedules with other members of the team

Experience Requirements:

A minimum of 5 years experience in similar IT roles
IT certifications, university degree in related field or equivalent
Understanding of network technologies and protocols (TCP / IP stack, switches, routers, firewalls, VPN, IPSEC, SSL, l2tp, OpenVPN, Wi-Fi, LAN technologies, VoIP, etc.)
Knowledge on storage technologies (NTFS, HPFS, Ext3, Ext4, xfs, Samba/CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, etc)
Strong knowledge of Virtualization technologies (VMWare, Hyper-V, Proxmox)
Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux environments
Handson experience building PCs and manipulating servers in Data Center environment
Basic understanding of scripting and/or software development (git, bash, php, Powershell)
Experience networking hardware such as Cisco, Juniper, Fortigate
Experience with Cambium, Motorola and Avigilon equipment will be considered an asset

Additional Requirements:

Must be willing and able to lift heavy IT equipment, up to 50 pounds
Good verbal and written communication skills
Great customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to prioritize, multitask, work within time constraints and followup
Ability to work individually and as part of a team
Must understand the importance of documentation
Must live within 1 hour of Barrie, ON or be willing to relocate prior to commencing job
Must hold a valid Drivers Licence
Must be willing to travel to customer locations, as required
Must pass a criminal record check
