CUPE 5791 Job Family Trade Services Category Staff Number of Vacancies 1 Position SummaryPosition Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to operate and maintain all University mechanical controls systems that serve the campus community.
Work may involve the installation and commissioning of new controls systems as well as the maintenance, repair and retrofitting of existing systems.
Primary Duties:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Controls, this position is responsible for, but not limited to, the maintenance, construction, repair and installation of control systems for steam heating, hot water heating, chilled water, domestic water, fire life safety systems, refrigeration and air handling equipment.
This position is responsible for commissioning, balancing and inspection of new spaces and buildings, including verifying sequences of operation, testing failure modes to ensure the safety of occupants and equipment, and cataloging of new equipment.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provide safe, comfortable, functional spaces of all the University programs and activities.
- Monitor, maintain and repair the campus building controls systems.
- Design, install, modify and/or repair all University control systems and equipment served by control systems.
- Responsible for operating and maintaining control systems for the University's district heating and cooling system.
- Maintain indoor air quality and respond to customer concerns.
- Maintain and operate the University Building Energy Management System.
- Troubleshoot problems, make decisions and provide solutions in building systems efficiencies
- Respond to emergency situations in order to resolve issues as quickly as possible.
- Maintain current knowledge of the rapidly evolving building automation field.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Successful completion of grade 12 with five years related experience.
- Either, or combination of ;
- Valid Saskatchewan Journeyperson certificate in instrumentation;
- Valid Interprovincial Journeyperson certificate in Instrumentation; or a Technical Diploma in Instrumentation Technology; or,
- A.Sc.
- All certification(s) must be combined with commercial and industrial controls experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Honeywell and/or Johnson building automation systems preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the use of various tools, equipment and machinery associated with the controls trade.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and understand drawing, schematics and associated specifications.
- Ability to work independently with mÃnimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, the general public, external consultants, contractors and vendors.
- Knowledge of and skill in the use of computer systems.
- Training, upgrading and continuing education related to the position.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan drivers license.
- Possession of a Fireman's Refrigeration Engineer, General Gas, Phoenix/Celeris and Crossconnection certification would be an asset.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality.
- Ability to identify and analyze control problems and to formulate and implement solutions.
- Have knowledge of, understand and comply with University health and safety requirements, Saskatchewan Occupational Health And Safety Regulations, all safe work procedures and practices applicable to the position.
- Ability to properly use safety equipment, machine guards, and safety devices. All personal protective equipment must be used appropriate.
- Ability to identify and report unsafe acts, workplace hazards, and incidents that result (or could result) in injury.
- Ability to work and encourage others to work and act safely.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
May be required to work overtime and weekends; may be required to work various shifts; required to be on the call out schedule for emergency after hour calls.
Work will be performed at heights, in crawl spaces, on roof tops and will include the use of ladders and powered mobile lifts.
