Detailed Overview:

Supervises Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians and other designated staff and coordinates staff orientation to the Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Department.

Cleans, sterilizes, assembles, wraps and/or labels instruments and equipment, maintains inventory and supplies and identifies, troubleshoots and monitors problem areas on issues related to equipment break down and instrument problems.

Performs timekeeping functions utilizing a computerized Payroll System, calls in and allocates relief staff to fill temporary staffing requirements and performs clerical duties such as answering the telephone, maintaining records and filing.


Responsibilities:


  • Supervises Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians and other designated staff by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments, evaluating employee performance in consultation with the Leader and determining related training and orientation requirements.
  • Coordinates staff orientation to the MDR Department by performing duties such as identifying educational needs, recommending training and inservices and providing regular inservices and individual project assignments.
  • Cleans, sterilizes, assembles, wraps and/or labels and distributes instruments and equipment such as syringes, catheters, respirators, suction machines and/or linen and O.R. packs in accordance with established procedures by operating equipment such as heat sealer, washer sterilizer, autoclave and water distiller.
  • Performs timekeeping functions for the department by performing duties such as maintaining time sheets and attendance records, gathering hours worked, coding hours into computerized payroll system and forwarding to payroll upon approval. Reviews verification reports, identifies discrepancies and answers staff inquiries.
  • Calls in and allocates relief staff to fill temporary staffing requirements as required by performing duties such as utilizing a predetermined list, contacting appropriate staff to determine whether vacancy can be filled and forwarding concerns/issues to the Leader as required.
  • Participates in the development and evaluation of department policies and standards by performing duties such as attending meetings and providing input to the Leader as requested. Advises staff on current safety practices and procedures and forwards discrepancies/concerns to the Leader as required.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots and monitors problem areas on issues related to equipment break down, instrument problems and procedural changes. Ensures preventative maintenance by scheduling maintenance appropriately, completing maintenance requisitions and forwarding for repair.
  • Maintains inventory and supplies by performing duties such as filling orders for equipment and supplies according to established quotas and procedures from Stores and Purchasing, restocking supplies, removing supplies from circulation as required and reporting damaged or missing items.
  • Performs related clerical duties such as answering the telephone, maintaining records and filing.
  • Participates in the Quality Management Program by performing duties such as checking standards and documenting results such as biological test
