It is very important that a Residence Safety Monitor is dedicated to completing all assigned tasks and uphold the mission and values established by Columbia International College.


Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

  • Present a professional appearance while wearing the uniform supplied with the visible ID card
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment
  • Understands the residence protocols and procedures and responds to student inquiries and requests for information and assistance in a helpful and courteous manner
  • Flexibility to cover vacation and sick leaves at a variety of locations and different shifts
  • Exercise good judgment and must be able to work independently;
  • Maintains confidential information
  • Adhere to Health and Safety policies, protocols and processes
  • Support bus loading and unloading of students with tracking system
  • Regularly patrol the Residence hallways, common spaces and outside property ensuring a safe environment
  • Answer to any disruption in residence, including but not limited to: noise, littering, smell of cooking, smoke, or prohibited items
  • Provides door access and ensures only authorized persons are entering the building, including students and staff. Assists the student's family visitors to the front desk and reports contractors in the Visitors Check/in System
  • Checks the food deliveries to residence at the entrance for any prohibited items and ensures safety prior to delivery to students; Opens and checks the contents of packages prior to delivery to students
  • Monitors students during the breakfast and lunch line ups
  • Monitors student's arrival and departure during sign outs from Residence
  • Enforces appropriate Residence Policies and Procedures in accordance with Code of Conduct
  • Addresses students in violation of the policy and follow through on the appropriate discipline
  • Performs safety escorts as and when required
  • Uses provided residence radios to communicate with safety monitors, residence team and the Supervisor/Manager on duty
  • Watches for and reports any irregularities, such as facility and safety hazards which could lead to loss or damage of property
  • Remains alert for the presence of any unauthorized persons. Approaches suspicious persons and/or notifies the campus security and/or police when required
  • Maintains controls of the building keys and ensures they are accountable for
  • Sends the reports to appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Performs other jobrelated duties as assigned

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified in CPR, 1st Aid and AED
  • Must be able to read, write and understand the English language
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time

Hours of work:


  • Must have full time availability and ability to work rotating scheduled shifts as required by business operations (including evenings, mornings, weekends, overnights and holidays)
