This position is a summer contract (May - End of August), 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

ummary:


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Provides planning information and advice to the general public, agents and developers.
  • Prepares planning brochures and other related planning documents as required for various development issues.
  • Performs Zoning Bylaw reviews as part of the Building Permit process.
  • Provides administrative support for the Planning department.
  • Attends Planning and Development department meetings.
  • Assists the Heritage Advisory Committee as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Currently enrolled in a postsecondary education program in land use planning or related field.
  • Possess public relations and interpersonal skills to clarify facts, give information and respond to complaints.
  • Possess written communication skills to complete general correspondence.
  • Possess the ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, developers, elected officials, etc.
  • Possess operating skills for a variety of office equipment including computer, photocopier, etc.
  • Possess organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the Planning Act and Ontario Heritage Act.
  • Knowledge of general research techniques.
  • Ability to use ArcView & AutoCAD would be an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Class "G" Driver's License in good standing and a reliable vehicle is required.

Effort/Physical Demands:


  • Physical demand requires standing, sitting, lifting, crouching, and walking.
  • Visual attention for health and safety compliance and personal safety while on the job.

Working Conditions:


  • Standard office environment.
  • May be required to work occasional evenings and special events.
