Position Summary
We are looking for a Engineering Summer Intern to join us for 4 month period, starting in May 2023.

This position will be based out of our Portage la Prairie, Manitoba location


McCain Portage la Prairie is looking for a student to work within our Engineering department, assisting in the maintenance of ongoing programs and initiatives, as well as leading identified projects.


The Team


This position will report to the Engineering Manager and work alongside a team of 4 Maintenance Supervisors as well as Planners, Environmental Engineers, and Reliability Engineer.

This role will also work cross-functionally with the Safety, Production and Engineering Departments.


What You Will Be Working On

  • Assist the Engineering Team in activities relating to operations, maintenance or construction support
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure proper alignment with operations needs and requirements
  • Review assets and data to see where we can improve the frequency of maintenance and be able to improve our uptime on equipment
  • Participate in developing cost effective strategies for equipment that is problematic
  • Gather data to assist the department
  • Focus on safety, cost reduction and reliability
  • Coordinate with various disciplines and departments within operations to resolve engineering issues
  • Interface with project and operations teams to ensure proper alignment with operations needs and requirements
  • Perform and document time studies for various jobs
  • Analyze design changes for impact to processes and labour requirements
  • Participate in the development of reliability & maintenance prevention programs.
  • Supporting various programs within the department, including supporting initiatives, managing special projects and daytoday tasks
  • Assisting in the development and rollout of programs, policies, processes and procedures
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, to ensure effective processes are in place, and provides safety expertise to help facilitate business processes and decisions

What You Will Learn

  • Learn important aspects of project management such as project scheduling, cost estimating, cost control, and risk management

What You Need to be Successful

  • Current postsecondary student or recent graduate in a related Engineering program such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Biosystems
  • Works well as part of a high functioning team but also able to produce high quality individual work
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast paced environment, in a food manufacturing facility
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to problem solve
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office suite of programs, and an aptitude for learning new software programs
  • Demonstrates discretion in dealing with sensitive matters and maintains confidentiality of information and documents
  • Performs effectively under tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • Possesses strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Manages multiple priorities in an efficient manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
