Junior Estimator
Insituform Technologies Limited is looking for a
Junior Estimator working out of our
Edmonton office.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and manage estimating, risk analysis, bids, proposals for projects in Eastern Canada.
  • Develop Job Estimates and Budgets.
  • Write and develop work plans for evaluated submissions.
  • Analyze documents, specifications, proposals, and addendums in preparation for pricing.
  • Build Project Survey based on specifications, drawings, CCTV review and onsite conditions.
  • Obtain input from Operations staff as appropriate.
  • Procure subcontractor quotes.
  • Identify project risk and mitigation strategy.
  • On-Site investigation (when required) for traffic control, bypass, equipment access and ability to complete work as specified.
  • Compute costs by analyzing labor, equipment, material, rentals and subcontractors.
  • Order Bid Bond, obtain proper Insurance Requirements, assemble and complete Bid Documents/Package.
  • Prepare Final Bid/Proposal and track the completion of each task.
  • Determine final pricing structure and approval from Area Manager.
  • Lead the bid review process.
  • Ensure submission of proposals or bid delivery to the customer.
  • Enter the results and track the status of all Proposals and Bids in the project management system.
  • Maintain an estimating database of history and costs.
  • Lead project handoff meeting to the Project Management Team.
  • Attend Project Review meetings.
  • Review key projects with Project Managers regarding estimated costs vs. actual.
  • Review and supply Managers with a Project Survey from Sales to determine risk and feasibility of potential projects.
  • Procure all Plans and Specifications for all projects accepted by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering (i.e., Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management)
  • Designation as a P.Eng. or E.I.T. would be considered an asset.
  • 3 or more years related construction experience with experience in water/sewer, open cut and municipal environment would be considered an asset.
  • Mathematical and analytical skills necessary for interpretation of project execution for development of project costs. Must be able to conceptualize the work flow and be able to reflect the time and costs within the estimate.
  • Must be
    extremely proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and pdf. Skills
    required include excel formulas (if statements, vlookup, sumifs, count, etc.), multi sheet referencing, converting pdfs to excel and formatting.
  • Must have strong written skills for proposal writing with experience using Microsoft Word including formatting with table of contents.
  • Must be able to work accurately and effectively under pressure with hard deadline dates.
  • A solid understanding of databases, Primavera, InEight and JD Edwards software experience an asset.
  • Taskoriented and strong attention to detail with practical and logical thinking.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction processes and ability to assess project execution.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills with ability to motivate and empower organization. In addition, must be a strong communicator and be able to take the initiative to function without daytoday guidance.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to 10% travel required, more as needed
