This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing March 22, 2024 and closing at 11:59 pm on April 2, 2024.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Bed Control Specialist works as part of the Patient Flow Team, reporting

directly to the manager, Patient Capacity, Access & Flow. The primary function is to

coordinate admissions, bed assignments, (for all medical, surgical, emergent, ICU,

ER, other) transfers and discharges, process deaths and ensure accuracy of hospital

census. This position also coordinates transfers to and from other hospitals

ensuring alignment and focus on repatriation agreements, and maximizing bed

utilization. The Bed Control Clerk will effectively and efficiently monitor activity

related to patient access, patient placement and bed allocation to ensure equitable

access to inpatient beds. Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Office Administration Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Admitting experience required;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of bed control (tested):
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (tested);
  • Keyboarding skills of 40 w.p.m (tested);
  • Basic level Word, Excel, and Outlook (tested):
  • Current registration with a professional college such as the college of Health Records Administration is considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of Meditech Admissions Module;
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proven prioritization, organization and timemanagement abilities;
  • Proven critical thinking skills;
  • Proven ability to work well in a high paced environment with frequent interruptions;
  • Proven ability to work with mínimal supervision and to demonstrate initiative and be a selfstarter;
  • Physically capable of reaching, pulling, bending, walking, lifting, carrying frequently throughout the shift to accomplish tasks;
  • Proven attention to detail;
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize them;
  • Must have satisfactory performance record;

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety,
and environmental safety and participation in regular in service education sessions in this area; and,

  • Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:


The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.


Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
