Reporting to the Director, Business Information Services, the Business Intelligence Analyst identifies business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs.

    They work closely with management and staff to determine business requirements and priorities, define key performance indicators (KPI) and turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions.

    Determining Business / Data Requirements - working with all levels of the organization to understand the problem/business need, deciding what data will help in the decision, recognizing limitations in the data, and identify alternate solutions.


    • Gathering and Analyzing Data - working with the data to prepare (query, load, transfer), clean, validate, summarizing and identifying trends and patterns in the data.
    • Building Reports, Dashboards and Applications - using tools such as Power BI, Azure and excel to visualize the data and tell the story to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Building formal statistical models - using statistical techniques such as forecasting, trending, regression, and time series analysis to glean insights into why something is happening and forecast behaviours.
    • Documenting processes, definitions and helping to create a common language for data reporting - working with the organization to improve data literacy and create a common understanding of the tools used to analyze data.
    Data Literacy
    Digital Literacy
    University graduate in computer science, Business or a related area.

    • Three years of experience in project leadership on small to medium sized data projects involving relational databases.
    • Experience working with data visualization software (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, R Studio, SPSS, etc).
    • Experience using MS Access, SQL Query, and Visual Basics.
    • Experience in statistical analysis including regression, ANOVA, time series analysis and principle component analysis.
    • Understanding of existing business rules.
    • An understanding of how to extract data from external websites (Stats Canada, for example) for use in our analysis.
    • Understanding of data analysis in other jurisdiction/insurance companies.
    Written and spoken competency in English is required.

    Your primary workspace will be from your in-home office, with the occasional expectation of in person meetings, for that reason, working from outside the province or country is not permissible.
