Kemptville District Hospital is seeking multiple
Clinical Externs to join our growing team

This position is temporary until March 31, 2024, with possibility of extension.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Attends to the personal care, nutritional, emotional, mobility, and safety needs of patients.
  • Bed Linen Changes
  • Personal Care and Grooming
  • Toileting
  • Answering Bells
  • Passing/Collecting Trays
  • Stocking Supplies/Carts
  • Obtain/Document Vital Signs
  • Obtain/Document Weights
  • Ambulation/Transfers
  • Portering
  • Emptying Catheters/Ostomy
  • Documenting Intake and Output
  • Glucoscans/QC Checks
  • Assist with Feeding/Snacks
  • Assist with Repositioning
  • Assist with Mechanical Lift
  • Observe/Report Changes in Patient Condition to Registered Staff
  • Directed to Assist with Emergency Situations
  • Participates in learning opportunities with Manager/Registered Nurse mentor
  • Other duties as delegated by their Manager/Registered Nurse mentor

Qualifications:


  • BScN students
  • Must have completed their 1st year of studies;


  • Practical Nursing students

  • Must have completed their 2nd year of studies;
  • Current BCLS;
  • Knowledge of body mechanics, and safe patient lift and transfer practices;
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team;
  • Effective communication skills to provide ongoing support and care for diverse patients and communicate any concerns, changes in the patient's condition;
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
  • Commitment to maintain dignity and selfesteem of patients and families in delivery of care;
  • Proficient computer/technological skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure, request assistance when required, and to adapt to change rapidly.
