Position Description:


We are seeking a highly motivated new member to join our team, manage the lab and assist with experiments (
Lab
Research Project Manager).

The successful incumbent will join a high functioning and collaborative young lab with research focused on liver repair, regeneration, and fibrosis, using transgenic mouse models, progenitor organoid and cell culture, computational biology, and genome engineering (viral vectors, transgenesis, CRISPR).

This job requires a highly organized individual with outstanding time management, excellent communication, and advanced technical skills able to support trainees and the PI.

They will assist in research, training, and manage various aspects of the lab. An important focus will be the management of a disrupted supply chain to make sure research continues without interruption.


Our Research Project Manager will play an integral supervisory role in providing continuity of research, running the lab with the assistance of a more junior team member, to ensure efficient and effective productivity, encouraging research excellence and integrity.

There will be opportunities for on-the-job training and career advancement within the lab, for high-potential individuals. Our goal is to retain talent, as they grow with the lab.


Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Independently pursues a research project within the group; and/or may have specialized expertise or knowledge in a particular field which is an essential component of a team project.
  • May be responsible for the organization of the laboratory, ordering supplies, budgeting, and developing new techniques or methods.
  • Performs advanced, highly technical work of a professional nature, and provides leadership within the research group on technical matters; supervises and takes responsibility for some aspects of the laboratory research. Provides a continuity of research.
  • Must be capable of assuming responsibility for interpreting assignments, planning series of experiments, correlating data obtained, evaluating results, preparing reports embodying pertinent hypotheses, assumptions, procedures and findings. Work performed is usually at a creative level. Should be capable of designing or creating new techniques, procedures and practices. Collaborates in preparation of peer reviewed scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Must possess creativity to adapt known techniques to new settings and advise on creating new practices. Will collaborate with lab researchers in preparation of peerreviewed scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Presents the outcome of research projects to the department, members of the research community, conferences, and international meetings.
  • May be responsible for preparation and update of regulatory protocols (ie, BioRisk permits, REB, AUPs). Participate in ad hoc committees within the Research Institute and ensure fiscal and safety responsibilities are maintained.
  • Support organization of the laboratory, performing such duties as control of ordering supplies, budgeting, developing new techniques or methods. Provides continuity and is a source of information on research.
  • Makes decisions affecting the laboratory or project within the restraints of his/her responsibilities.

Shared responsibilities with Junior Team Members

  • Animal husbandry, breeding strategies including coordinating genotyping with Transnetyx.
  • Biosafety level 2 virology work (animal inoculations, cell culture for viral harvest)
  • Performing animal procedures for experiments.
  • Routine preparation and maintenance of organoid and cell culture.
  • General lab support through identification of needed supplies, stocking/aliquoting/storing of supplies.
  • General organization of the lab, space, storage, inventory management.
  • Preparation of key solutions, buffers, media, including using aseptic techniques.
