Who we are looking for:


  • Reporting to the Librarian 2 in Technical Services, this position troubleshoots technical issues related to catalogue records, vendor orders, and daytoday workflow in the department by consulting with department staff, the department manager, or staff in other departments as appropriate. The LA3 also supervises the work of clerical staff in the department, works at library service desks helping customers find and borrow materials, use library computers or other library technology, and supports the information and lifelong learning needs of a diverse clientele.

What you need to do:


  • Perform original and copy cataloguing of materials in various formats; input onorder records; revise, update, and delete catalogue records as required; verify existing information and perform editing to industry and NWPL standards. Identify appropriate bibliographic records using online and other sources and then export them into the local system. Occasionally perform original cataloguing as needed.
  • Coordinate the library's periodicals including collection maintenance, ordering, processing, and claiming under the supervision of the Librarian
  • Perform routine checks to ensure the integrity of bibliographic and customer databases and take action on problems found. Place orders for books and nonbook material that have been chosen by selectors; create, maintain and order vendor records in the automated system. Verify shipments, process invoices and resolve shipping and invoice problems with vendors. Claim outstanding orders and maintain serial records on automated system.
  • Participate in database management and quality control of library bibliographic records as well as import and manipulate MARC records.
  • Participate in creating efficient systems to manage the workflows and priorities in Technical Services.
  • Generate reports and statistics as required.
  • Troubleshoot basic integrated library database (ILS) issues and act as a resource for library staff, patrons and vendors.
  • Regularly communicate with vendors to resolve acquisition and cataloguing matters. Coordinate with other libraries' interlibrary loan departments as necessary. Customer/Public Service.
  • Manage leased collections and coordinate automatic release plans with vendors.
  • Assist library users with questions about their accounts, memberships, basic information and reader's advisory assistance, and assist people with public technology questions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and other NWPL staff and departments to ensure efficient and effective service to the public, including providing staff support for special projects.
  • Participate in programs, attend workshops and courses which foster professional or technical development where applicable and approved.
  • Follow all Health & Safety policies and procedures and report any noncompliance or any possible safety risks.
  • Participate in cross training in various departments and provide some regularly scheduled public service shifts at the Main Branch of the library.
  • Demonstrated ability and confidence using a wide range of computer hardware including PCs, tablets, laptops, and software, including MS Office Suite products, Adobe Suite, digital conversion and creation equipment/software, and library databases; Horizon and BiblioCommons experience also desirable.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with good attention to detail and ability to work independently while asking for help as needed.
  • Demonstrated a genuine interest in growing your career with the Library and keeping current with library, cataloguing, and professional trends.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
