    Our Team
    The Mines Technical Services (MTS) team is responsible for maintaining a variety of functions including mine planning, scheduling, surveying, backfill, ventilation, ground control, geology metrics tracking, production statistics data input/review, incentives administration, annual capital plan development, and operating and capital cost tracking for variances.

    We are currently seeking Engineer, Mining to join our Garson Mine in Sudbury.

    Reporting to the Chief Mine Engineer, this role will work with mine operations and technical disciplines to make sure mining operations are planned, developed and operated in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.

    Additionally, in this position, you will:

    • Provide mining engineering support to an existing team of geologists, mining engineers, and geotechnical engineers.
    • Participates in the design, evaluation and support of underground mining operations.
    • Create schedules for development and production by sequencing stopes and development headings with guidance and approval from all parties involved.
    • Design backfill packages for filling of stopes with sand fill and development rock that are consistent with engineering standards for support requirements.
    • Create blasting designs that maximizes ore recovery.
    • Maintain a focus on safety for the work being implemented in conjunction with MTS Safety Plan.
    • Identify, analyze, recommend, and bring into action opportunities for safety, productivity, and cost improvements.
    • Maintain/create drainage, pumping, backfill, compressed air and LTE network level/section prints as required (many levels/multiple orebodies)
    • Initiate engineering requests for new level infrastructure, validate locations, sizes and design for sumps, electrical and sandfill stations.
    • Management of QA/QC sandfill program: manage sampling collection & tracking
    • Update the mine "Water Management Program" documents
    • MTS support for incident investigations related to water management
    • Complete Development layouts when required, and peer-review checking
    • Complete Service boreholes layouts and required site visits
    • Complete Miscellaneous Boreholes QA/QC (ensure borehole listing, as builts and drill database are updated)

    About You

    Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mining Engineering. P.Eng preferred.
    Experience: Minimum of 18 months of mine production planning and mine engineering experience is required.

    Skills for this position:

    • Underground mine design, mining engineering, scheduling, and high level of understanding of underground mining activities.
    • Knowledge of engineering planning software (Mine2-4D, EPS, MineCAD, Deswik) is an asset.
    • Knowledge of cash flow modeling techniques and mineral economics is an asset.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with spreadsheet manipulation in Excel.
    • Be creative, not only use past practices but promote new ways of doing things in order to maximize the value of our mineral resources.
