The Opportunity

Region of Waterloo Paramedics provide out-of-hospital emergency medical care and transportation for ill and injured persons to and from treatment facilities throughout the Region.

You will perform patient assessment and care per basic and advanced life support patient care standards and advanced life support patient care standards, and administer medical interventions deemed necessary by Base Hospital and the Region.

You will operate ambulances and emergency response vehicles per legislation, policy and weather and traffic conditions, to, from and between treatment facilities.

You will respond to calls, maintaining contact with the central ambulance communications centre regarding the status, location and movement of ambulances and emergency response vehicles.

You will work in consultation with other staff, health care providers, emergency care providers, the public, and patients, in a professional and supportive manner.

You will provide detailed patient reports to medical staff upon arrival at hospitals, and prepare written and electronic reports such as ambulance calls and operational activity.

You will participate in mandatory continual medical education, divisional training, public relations and quality assurance programs.
You will have the opportunity to train and act as a preceptor for paramedic students.

Primary Care Paramedics may opt to participate in the Autonomous IV program through CPER Base Hospital upon receiving the training.


Qualifications:


Proof of MOHLTC AEMCA certification as a Primary Care Paramedic required or to be obtained within 210 days of graduation from a Paramedic program.

Proof of Primary Care Paramedic Diploma (or a letter of good standing indicating graduation date) from an approved Ontario Primary Care Paramedic training program prior to hire date.

Must have a valid Class F Ontario Driver's License

Copy of Driver's abstract in good standing as per Regional Policy to be submitted to the Region within sixty (60) days from hire date.

Successful completion of all requirements to be certified as a Primary Care Paramedic by the Centre for Paramedic Education and Research (CPER).

Proof of valid HCP CPR certification issued within the past calendar year required.
Proof of mandatory immunization as specified by the Ontario Ambulance Act.
Proof of successful completion of the Ottawa Paramedic Physical Abilities Test (valid within 6 months).
Qualified for employment under Ontario Ambulance legislation.
Completion of reference checks, to the satisfaction of the employer.
Clear Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Record Check Report valid within six (6) months of hire date.

Successful completion of the Defensive Driver Training course and a Road evaluation administered by the Region of Waterloo within your probation period.
